Customising the Bear upvote button
This post was heavily inspired by this post from hanki.dev.
As a developer and user of the internet, I'm a big fan of Bear Blog and its philosophy to embrace the tiny web and only the bear necessities.
That being said, I wanted to add some "personality" to the blog and opted to customise the upvote button (AKA "toast button"). After some tinkering, I replaced the standard icon with an emoji. In order to so, I utilised one of my favourite CSS features ā pseudo-elements.
Here's the result, along with the CSS.

Naturally, you can see a demo of it at the bottom of this post (and every other post on this site).
